Di Resta’s pre-race prediction proves spot on
The Scottish driver advanced from 10th to seventh during the 66 lap race and he was very pleased with the result. Speaking in a team press release after the race, he said that the team can “take a lot of positives away from the weekend” because the Circuit de Catalunya has “traditionally not suited” their car.
He added “The result shows the consistency that we have had since the start of the year and that we can perform each weekend.” That is hugely promising for the team, who have maintained their fifth place in the constructors standings, because it shows that the VJM06 works well at different types of circuits. Concluding, he said that it is a “big result” for the team and that there is “more to come.”
It was a far from ideal race for Adrian Sutil who suffered a cross-threaded right rear wheel nut at his first stop. This cost him bundles of time and he dropped down the order like a stone. He shared his disappointment, saying after the race “It’s extremely disappointing to come away empty-handed from this race because we were so quick today.”
He also revealed that the team even asked him to cut the engine during that troublesome first stop so they could fix the problem, Sutil felt it “cost” him the chance of scoring some good points.
However he admitted that “It’s frustrating, but you have to accept these things. Hopefully it will not happen again.”
