Nico Hulkenberg says he is satisfied with qualifying in ninth place for tomorrow’s German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring.
Both Force India drivers managed to progress to the top 10 shoot-out, with Hulkenberg finishing just ahead of Sergio Perez by 0.021 seconds.
Despite being pleased with his qualifying performance, the German expects his race pace to be stronger than his one-lap speed.
“I think it was good,” he said. “I think we got the most out of our car and ourselves, so from that point of view we can be satisfied. On one lap pace, it doesn’t get any better for us.”
Looking ahead to his home race, he added: “It is a good place to start, I think. Yes, we have been good over race pace compared to qualifying and yesterday also the long runs looked more encouraging that qualifying pace, so that gives us hope for tomorrow.
“I think it will be a really long, hot and tricky race for everybody. Maybe a few surprises, strategy, I think there is some flexibility. We need to see how we go but I think we should be alright.”
Force India is currently fifth in the constructors’ standings, just one point ahead of McLaren. Meanwhile Hulkenberg currently sits in seventh place in the drivers’ championship.
