Nico Rosberg enjoyed a good day at Silverstone following his race day disappointment, posting the third quickest time on day one of the in-season test at Silverstone.
The German was cruelly ousted from the lead in Sunday’s British Grand Prix following gearbox issues on his W05 Hybrid, with teammate and title rival Lewis Hamilton romping to a home victory in front of a partisan crowd at Silverstone. On Tuesday though, the German managed an impressive 90 laps around Silverstone with a best time of 1:35:573.
Despite finishing three-tenths shy of pacesetter Felipe Massa, Rosberg declared himself happy with his days work.
“It’s been a good day today,” he said. “It’s so valuable to do these test days; over a race weekend it’s rare to get two runs in the day that are the same as tyres are getting old and conditions change but here we can always use new tyres, so we can really do some setup work that we don’t normally get to do.”
With Sundays race-winner Lewis Hamilton set to take over testing duties tomorrow on the back of his victory on Sunday, Rosberg’s attentions now turn to the next race of the season- his home round at the Hockenheimring, Germany.
“It will be great. I’m now forward to taking our dominant Silver Arrow to Germany and racing at Hockenheim. It will be special, and I look forward to it.”
