Sergio Perez says he is “feeling positive” after topping the timesheets on the second day of the third pre-season test, which was his final session driving the Force India VJM07 ahead of the first round of the 2014 season in Australia.
The Mexican driver will hand the car over to his new team-mate Nico Hulkenberg for the closing two days of pre-season testing. Perez set the fastest time of the day, a 1m35.570, and completed 108 laps.
His morning session in the car was dominated by set-up work, before focus then switch to long runs in the afternoon using several different tyre compounds.
“It feels very good to have another full day and to do so many laps,” admitted the former McLaren racer. “It’s my last time in the car until we arrive in Melbourne and I’m feeling positive about how things are going.
“The set-up work today was very useful because we tried some different things to have a better direction for the first race. Everything went to plan and we managed to complete all the long runs in the afternoon.”
Technical director Andrew Green added: “It has been another busy day with lots of miles completed and a great deal learned. It’s been important for Sergio to have two solid days in the car to get him more comfortable with the VJM07 and race-ready for Melbourne.”
