As McLaren launched the MP4-29 at their Woking factory and Lotus revealed the first images of their E22, the ‘Silver Arrows’ were busy giving their 2014 challenger its on-track debut. The team confirmed the news in a statement on Friday night.
They used one of their two filming days to give the car its first run, with Nico Rosberg at the wheel. The German driver completed 40km of running at Silverstone between 2.20pm and 4.30pm.
The shakedown also gave Mercedes the chance to try out their new PU106A Hybrid Power Unit on track for the first time before the opening test in Jerez. They confirmed on Twitter their schedule for the test, with Lewis Hamilton driving the car Tuesday and Thursday and Nico Rosberg taking over test duties on Wednesday and Friday.
Toro Rosso also gave their 2014 car its debut run today, confirming that the STR9 had its first shakedown at the Misano track in Italy. “And now… the track! Today we had a successful filming day @circuitomisano with @JeanEricVergne and @Dany_Kvyat,” they confirmed on Twitter.
Meanwhile Silverstone was also the location for the first test of the Force India VJM07, with Nico Hulkenberg at the wheel.
