Raikkonen and Ricciardo had been the two contenders vying for Mark Webber’s seat next season following the Australian driver’s decision to retire, but Sport Bild reported earlier this week that Ricciardo was set to be announced at the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, suggesting that the race was over.
However, Steve Robertson’s confirmation to Turun Sanomat that the negotiations have ended leaves the way clear for Ricciardo to join the defending world champions.
“It’s true,” Robertson explained. “Kimi will not be driving for Red Bull in 2014. We held some talks, but a deal will not be happening.”
Therefore, it would appear that an announcement from Red Bull confirming Ricciardo for next season is imminent, ending the major talking point of this season so far but potentially causing a domino effect in the driver market for next season.
