Speaking to Sky Sports F1, Horner admitted that Raikkonen along with the Toro Rosso driver pairing of Ricciardo and Vergne are the three drivers in the running for Webber’s drive.
He said: “We want the fastest line-up that we can and Kimi’s obviously an attractive option. The youngsters are attractive as well. We want to take our time and evaluate the options but the reality is that it’s probably between those three.
When asked if Paul Di Resta was in contention for a drive after his strong start to the season, Horner replied: “Obviously you’ve got to look at everyone and see what’s available. I don’t know what Paul’s situation is, but as I say, our focus will be primarily on those three guys.”
Raikkonen is known to have a number of options for 2014 but has admitted that it is wide open at the moment. Should one of the Toro Rosso duo make the step up to the lead team, it is widely expected that Formula Renault 3.5 driver Antonio Felix da Costa – who will test for the team in the Young Driver Test next month – will be promoted to a race seat with the Italian based squad.
