The Formula 1 2013 Young Driver Test will take place at the Silverstone circuit from the 17th to the 19th of July, the track has confirmed. It will take place one week prior to the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Last years test saw teams split locations with some opting for Silverstone as their venue, whilst others used Magny-Cours and the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi respectively.
The test is open to all teams and drivers with fewer than two race starts. The test enables young, up and coming drivers to get their a taste of Formula 1 machinery. Current rookies Jules Bianchi, Valtteri Bottas, Estaban Gutierrez and Max Chilton all gained their first experiences of driving a Formula 1 car at such tests.
It will take place a few weeks before the traditional summer break.
However talks of replacing the Young Driver test and slashing straight line test days in favour of more in-season testing are currently taking place after a meeting with the Sporting Working Group in Canada over the weekend. The plan will go forward to the FIA’s World Motorsport Council later in the month.
